THE BAROQUE SOCIETY
THE BAROQUE SOCIETY
Your petite baroque band & musical treasure hunter
TBS = The Baroque Society
“What if there was a whole world of music that we didn’t yet know? Music for dreaming, music for connecting with each other - from one human to the other”
TBS highlights hidden musical treasures and works by female baroque composers alongside well known baroque classics. The band embraces a fresh approach to historically informed performance practice - sparkling virtuosity, playful improvisation and daring musical concepts. Together with our audience we want to find home to the music - poetry for heart and mind.
Our core:
Yngvild Haaland Ruud (harpsichord & other keyboards + ensemble direction)
Jesenka Balic Zunic (violin, viola, viola d’amore & viola da spalla)
Louise Gorm (violin)
Mikkel Schreiber (viola & violin)
Adam Grauman (viola da gamba & violone)
We love to expand our band with friends & guest performers whenever needed. Collaborations in close future includes:
Christina Herresthal, mezzo
Martin Vanberg, tenor
Marlene Metzger, soprano
Lauritz Thomsen, bas
Hanna Loftsdottir, baroque cello & gamba
Daniel Seminara, lutes
Behind the scenes
The power-duo of Yngvild Ruud and Trine Heide makes up the office of The Baroque Society running everything from artistic planning, strategising, planning concerts and tours, developing new collaborations and talking A LOT about how to make connections with our audiences and create the best baroque society, we can imagine. Usually, office hours includes loads of coffee or from time to time, a glass of wine - nature, bien sûr.
Trine is also head of the company Kind Of Opera, and we’re proud to have this brand as our co-producing creative machinery. Read more about Kind Of Opera below!

Kind Of Opera explores the framework of opera and classical music through innovative concepts and stagings. We produce concerts and festivals in collaboration with other artists and organisations. We produce opera and work to bring international new classics to Denmark. We create and engage in inclusive communities through music. And we contribute to a more sustainable industry for new opera and classical music.
We do all this because we believe that staged and storytelling music can do something very special - and through the works we aim to give the audience insight into and empathy for worlds and perspectives that they did not expect to encounter in opera and classical music .
Kind Of Opera produces its own performances and concepts, and we co-produce with and for other artists and organisations. It's not all opera, and it's not all staged classical music - it's kind of….
